Ryan Koerber's First Deer

A short story by Ryan Koerber

I was sitting in my stand with my dad waiting for the sun to come up. My dad had fallen asleep with a blanket over his head, and I was watching for the deer to start moving. It was about 7:15 in the morning when this buck came walking up right beside my stand. I tapped on my dad's leg and tried to wake him up, but he just groaned. After the deer moved up a little farther I told my dad there was a big buck. He slowly pulled the blanet off his head and watched the deer with me.I lifted my gun to get ready and I was shaking. I told myself..If I'm gonna get this deer I better calm down. Then I tried again and this time my dad said pull the trigger slow and shoot! That deer jumped and ran, but I knew I had him. My dad said he thought I missed but then we saw him fall against a tree. It seemed like a long time to wait, but when we did get to it, he looked even bigger than when I first saw him.
